Rain relents and kids have a ball

Birmingham Bulldogs staged their mini festival yesterday [Sun. 22 July] more in hope than expectation as far as the weather was concerned. But, in the event, the rain held off and the club was able to stage an enjoyable tournament. Players came from Birmingham, Telford, Derby, Nottingham, Northampton and Coventry.

Bulldogs under 11s and under 13s were supplemented by players from Nottingham Outlaws.

The under 13s games were played in a triangular pool of Birmingham Telford and Derby. The Derby side confirmed their recent prowess by running in ten trys against a game Brum outfit. The Bulldogs boys, however, performed with great credit against Telford in an 8 tries to 4 defeat. [all scores quoted in terms of tries scored]

The under 11s began with a hard fought 3-3 draw against Northampton, which was followed by a resounding 8-2 success against Derby. Finally a combined Derby and Birmingham side played Northampton and came back from 3-5 down to win 6-5 once more.
